Grade 9 students of Golden Peak High School recently completed a highly successful and enriching educational tour to Pokhara and the surrounding areas, including Kande, Lumle, and the renowned Australian Base Camp (also known as Pothana).

This tour was carefully designed as a cornerstone of the school’s commitment to project-based learning. The objective was to provide students with a real-world, firsthand exploration of geography, local culture, the environment, and the intricacies of the tourism industry in Nepal.

Himalayan Sunrise at Australian Base Camp
One of the definitive highlights of the entire trip was the early-morning hike to the Australian Base Camp. The students were rewarded for their trek with a truly magnificent sunrise over the spectacular Himalayan range. They enjoyed stunning, panoramic views of the Annapurna Massif and the iconic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) peak, an unforgettable Himalayan viewpoint experience.

Cultural Immersion and Local Insights
Beyond the natural beauty, the tour offered deep cultural immersion. Students had the invaluable opportunity to observe and learn about the Gurung culture, local traditions, and the unique lifestyle of the mountain communities nestled in the region.

The itinerary included exploration of ancient temples, key tourist areas, and local businesses. This provided essential, practical insights into the complex relationship between regional tourism, indigenous culture, and the vital local economy—a perfect intersection of theory and practice for their project-based learning.

Recreational Fun in Pokhara
The educational journey concluded in Pokhara, a hub for both nature and recreation. Students enjoyed a memorable time engaging in various activities designed to enhance teamwork and fun. Highlights included:

Boating on Phewa Lake, offering stunning reflections of the surrounding hills.

Cycling along the lakeside.

Experiencing fun, Disneyland-style recreational games, which added a touch of excitement and joy to the comprehensive educational trip.

Golden Peak High School is proud to continue providing these hands-on, memorable learning experiences that go far beyond the traditional classroom setting, shaping well-rounded and globally aware students.
