Buddha Jayanti which is also known as Buddha Purnima, is a Buddhist festival that celebrates the birth of Gautam Buddha who was also the founder of Buddhism. His real name was Siddhartha Gautam and he was born in Lumbini.

On this day people celebrate the life of lord Buddha; his Birth, Enlightenment and Mahaparinirvana . On this day, in Lumbini, a procession is held in the morning , a formal program of cultural events takes place during the day , and at night the Mayadevi Temple is decorated with thousands of lamps.

This year it’s 2567th Buddha Anniversary.

Gautam Buddha is one of the most popular iconic figures in human history for the promotion of Peace, Love, and Equality. At the age of 35, Gautam Buddha was Enlightened and was thus named ‘Lord Buddha’. Hindu philosophy regards Buddha as one of the 9th reincarnations of Lord Vishnu. People visit Monasteries and Temples to pay homage to Lord Buddha for his gift to humanity

On the day of Buddha Jayanti on 8th June, 2008, for the first time, a public holiday was announced in Nepal and till now holiday has been declared. It is not celebrated with loud noise or dances. Taking into consideration the very nature of Buddha, a simple form is adopted.

The significance of Buddha Jayanti lies not in worshipping Buddha statues in various temples, monasteries; but in advancing the interests of all mankind by embracing his teachings.

I’d love all the Nepalese to follow the path shown by Buddha and be a kind human.
