Drug abuse and illicit trafficking are not just problems in faraway places or among certain groups of people, they are issues that touch lives everywhere, in every community, and often closer to home than we realize.
Drug abuse kicks off when someone uses substances like heroin, cocaine, or prescription pills in a harmful way. It might start as a way to escape stress, pain, or pressure, but it can quickly spiral down into addiction. The toll it takes is heavy on health, relationships, jobs, and even lives.
Illicit drug trafficking is the dark engine that keeps this cycle going. It’s not just about smuggling drugs across borders—it’s about the violence, corruption, and crime that come with it.
The United Nations marks June 26th as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. It’s a reminder that this fight isn’t just for governments and police—it’s for all of us. Whether it’s by supporting education, promoting mental health, speaking up, or helping someone in need, everyone has a role to play.
The main highlight of the day was the awareness program that we participated in down in the multi-purpose hall in the presence of some distinguished police personnel.
Staying away from drugs is not for certain people but for everyone!
