“Our future doesn’t have to be bleak if a clean green earth is what we seek”. This quotation is closely connected to keeping our earth clean and green (i.e., environmental protection). The United Nation’s most important day for raising global awareness and action for environmental protection is World Environment Day. World Environment Day is held each year on 5th June. World Environment Day was established in 1972 by United Nations at the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment that had resulted from discussion on the integration of human interactions and the environment.
The theme of World Environment Day 2022 is “Only One Earth” to call for transformative changes in policies and alternatives to enable cleaner, greener and reliable living in peace with nature. Sweden is the global host of the World Environment Day this year. The “Only One Earth” theme focuses on living sustainably in harmony with nature. The conservation of Environment has become a necessity in today’s time period as the condition of our earth is degrading day by day. It is very important to examine the beauty of nature because when we do so we are able to discover that we have a connection through our lives as nature moves in a spiral pattern.
The most influential tool for environmental protection is community participation. It is more
preferable and feasible to prevent pollution rather than controlling pollution. Environmental issues are best managed with the participation of the public. We can adopt environment friendly practices, recycling of different materials as well as preserving resources. We can help the government and non-government organizations to prevent pollution in the society by generating mass awareness. We need to enable communities to proactively seek to improve the environment.
Government initiatives should thus be able to assist communities to take positive steps to improve the environment. It is said that to walk in nature is to witness a thousand miracles and there is certainly a way that the nature speaks but we people are not patient enough to understand it and that’s where we lack. Busy people in modern age is our reality and hence busy people have no time for experiencing nature and natural beauty. Thus, at least let us think about establishing a piece of garden in front of our house as a token of love to the environment.
