The month of Shravan brings joy to farmers, but it also brings numerous snakes out of their homes. On this month we worship Snake ‘Nag’ to seek their blessings, and prosperity on the day of Nag Panchami on 29th July.
It is said that by offering milk to snakes on this day, people are protected from negative energies. In many villages, people held Pujas on their fields to worship Nag. One of the most populated legends associated with Nag Panchami is the story of the devoted sister who saved her brothers from snakebite by worshiping the serpent deities and offering them milk. Since then, the day has been marked as a symbol of protection and well-being.
Nag Panchami is the reflection of harmony between humans and nature. By honoring the serpents, people show their respect for the natural world.
